Svartsot
The Rock, Copenhagen - 2008

To round up the festivities at The Rock for the Ragnarök Aaskereia tour the very competent, although young (as a band) Svartsot from the very land they were playing in, Denmark, had been chosen. Possibly this was the reason for their headlining status, that they were the ones playing on their home-turf. Possibly it’s just because they are good; there could be any number reasons.
Although the place had been packed earlier the crowd had somewhat lessened for the Svartsot show, but the ones that endured this cold Wednesday night were in for a treat. And for the rest of, well, you don’t know what you’ve missed out on.
Even though it was getting pretty late, and the guys in the band most likely had spent most of the day drinking, they were still able to ace the show, with an enviable amount of energy. I don’t know who, but someone had spiked their beer with the power of Duracell, that’s for sure.
Of course the great show from the guys on stage generated a more or less equal amount of energy in the still rather big audience; I even saw the first stage-dive of the evening at one point!
Something that could easily have dampened the show was the fact that Svartsot’s excellent flute-player, Stewart C. Lewis, could not be present, due to illness in the family. The band had, however, found a temporary replacement in Hans-Jørgen Martinus Hansen, and he played to damn near perfection, especially considering he had only had about five days in which to learn both the songs and the instrument.
There was not left much room for talking in between songs, but considering the tight schedule they were on, I think it was a wise choice to concentrate on the music instead. There was, however, time to introduce a completely new song, Den Vilde Jagt, which was performed for the second time ever just for us. And as the good book says; “And it was good”.
All the way to the end this had been a great night, and Svartsot felt like the perfect way to end the show. Again, the only complaint I could think of was that it was over far too quick; they had only about 30-35 minutes in which to play. More is requested for next time please!
Setlist:
Jotunheimsfærden
Skovens Kælling
Festen
Skønne Møer
Bersærkergang
Nidvisen
Holmgang
Den Vilde Jagt
Gravøllet
